A Trip to Antique Market & Bound Foot Shoe Museum
Our guide will pick you up at your hotel and head out to Dongtai Road Antique Market first. Dongtai Road is a short and narrow street surrounded by shabby houses. The market has all kinds of Chinese vintage memorabilia: porcelain, old posters, jade, paintings, teapots, cultural revolution kitsch and more. The items are replicas, not real antiques. Remember to bargain hard and you are sure to enjoy yourself.
Our next stop is Master Yang Shao Rong's private Bai Lu Tang Ancient Shoe Museum which is in a private house. His collection includes over 800 pairs of tiny 3-5 inch shoes used by women whose feet were bound. Feet binding was practiced in times past. Each of the shoes are exquisitely embroidered with silk and gold embroidery. The stories behind the collections told by Mater Yang should give you an insight into their history and the culture.
