Longji Terrace Field Memory Tour
Your guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel and head to Longsheng Terrace Fields. The road is twisty and winding, taking about 2 hours in total to reach Longsheng.
The Longji Rice Terraces are famous for their ancient history and their caliber. First built in the Yuan Dynasty in the 13th century and since maintained by the Zhuang people, the fields were made to stretch down from the hills and collect rainwater on their flat surfaces. As they wander the sides of the hills in a horizontal fashion, they create shapes such as shells and waves when seen from a higher point. Running smoothly across the landscape, the terraces are also said to resemble the back of a dragon.
Overall, the site includes 2 sections: the Ping'an terrace fields and the JinKeng terrace fields. Each section is home to a handful of its own villages where dispersed are the minority communities of the Miao, Yao, Dong, and Zhuang people. As you hike up and down the area on your tour, you will be able to see the local people living their daily lives. The villagers' clothing is distinct from each other, and the women’s hairstyles set them apart from any other minority groups. Also, by passing by the villages, you will see the typical construction of local homes, usually made of wood and range between 3 and 4 stories tall.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and return to the city later.
