Are you seeking a way to gain a Great Wall experience beyond the typical tourist route? This authentic Great Wall experience is unlike any other! Hike on Gueikou, Jinshanling, Simatai Great Wall sections which retain original features from the Ming Dynasty while partaking of amazing view from the watchtower. Experience the physical challenge and the amazing views.
Start at the Gubeikou Great Wall. Gubeikou has not been renovated and visitors can even see the bullet holes on the broken wall vividly. It will be a cool start for the Great Wall hiking.
Then continue on Jinshanling Great Wall, linking the Simatai Section to the east and Gubeikou Section to the west. It is an ideal place for experienced and enthusiastic trekkers to test themselves against the steep gradients of the mountains of northern China. This section was built on the big and small Jinshan mountains, hence its name.
To be sure, the landscapes here are unmatched and will take your breath away. The trek today atop the wall will cover about 10 kilometers and take a few hours at a leisurely pace. The part of the Great Wall here is only partly restored and certainly less crowded than other areas of the construction. At the end of the hike, you will arrive at a cable car stop which you may take to descend to the bottom, or go by foot as you wish. The views are spectacular either way you go.
Stay at a local guesthouse near Jinshanling Great Wall, getting a chance to experience local life.
On this second day of your Great Wall with us, you will explore the western part of the Simatai Great Wall section which is a fantastically rare portion which retains the original, untainted features of the structure dating back to the Ming Dynasty.
There are 16 watchtowers in the stretch that you will explore, dispersed as they wind along the steep mountain ridge. The views are dramatic; the 13th and 16th towers are blocked from public visits due to the steepness and peril of their settings. A cable car is available for those who wish to get closer to the 8th tower (also known as White Cloud Tower). Continue discovering the area and the wall by foot as you wish, descending at a good time. Most travelers prefer to hike up to the wall then take the cable car down.
We use different hotels for different tour classes while the itinerary is the same. Deluxe Class is usually staying at a 5-star hotel, Superior Class at a 4-star hotel and Tourist Class at a 3-star level hotel. The prices for one person are based on sharing twin hotel rooms with another guest. A supplement is necessary if you want to book single rooms. And the prices may rise during national holidays, such as the National Day (September 30th to October 6th) and Chinese New Year (late January or early February)
